Personality & Abilities

Personality

Protective, volatile, and intelligent but emotional, Chaera can run as hot as her blood or as cold as a winter sky. Though normally gentle and rather sweet, even to the point of being too trusting, Chaera can be quick to take offense and snap back at those who put her in awkward positions, or make fun of her.

Chaera believes in goodness and right, but her sense of justice and good and evil doesn't always conform with the law. She is honorable, her word is as good as gold. However, she'll disobey or go against the orders of anyone she believes is wrong. She'll assist even people who have wronged her in the past, throwing aside differences easily if there's a greater goal in sight.

Growing up as a Harborman instilled in her the values of her hometown; hard work through one's own hands, tenacity that would put a roach to shame, a hardheaded, stubborn drive to prevail in the face of all odds, and the habit of keeping her trap shut on uncomfortable subjects.

She respects the secrets of other people and has the ability to let things go. She's capable of using people, though she prefers not to, and keeps her tone casual but respectful, unless she senses a slight, and has the habit of attaching nicknames to people she likes.

Chaera has a mischeivous and playful nature and isn't above playing sneaky tricks to get what she needs, but always for some end, even if it's just a bit of playful fun. She adores wordplay, artistic talent, and subtlety. She's more likely to make a flippant comment than start a physical fight, but her tongue will sometimes get her into more trouble. It's not in her nature to be completely straightforward, but she can be when the situation calls for it.

Perhaps her greatest strength is her ability to sew together facts into bigger pictures. She notices patterns and indicators that others may not, and has made a game all her life at reading and attempting to predict the reactions of people.

Despite her generally sometimes overly serious, but caring and warm personality, Chaera has another side to her, one she struggles with.

She has a horrible temper.

Abilities

Chaera is a Tiefling, the progeny of a demon of the lower planes mixed with a human. She is second-generation, meaning that one of her parents was fully human, and the other was of mixed blood, making her only one-fourth infernal. She's faster, stronger, has a higher endurance level, a better immune system, and more resistance to poisons than the average human. She can take much more damage, and naturally heals faster. However, she can still be killed in all the conventional ways. Holy water burns her a bit, and the aura of a paladin will make her skin itch. She has a good sense of smell, and can sense when another has demon blood when they're in close vicinity.

Though skilled with most martial weapons as well as being a very good shot with a bow, Chaera is best with her heavy flail, Bane. Her class in D&D terms is the Eldritch Knight, a class that encompasses both mundane fighting and mostly offensive sorcery.

Chaera mostly has control over her demon blood, but at times when her temper is well and truly lost, a very rare thing indeed, it will come to surface in the form of a ruby-red tinge to her irises, the baring of her teeth, and more often than not a sudden outburst of physical violence. It also has the habit of reacting to other demons (friendly) and devils (violently) in the vicinity.

Though she still possesses the silver sword of Gith, Adstringendum is not connected to the Astral plane, so it'll function as a normal sword -- though it's made of silver and softly glows when Chaera holds it.

Devils' Bane, however, which is a magically enhanced heavy flail designed for combat against those with Infernal blood, still works. Being hit with that thing is like being hit with a silver knife recently dipped in holy water, and the girl swings a mean flail anyway. This thing can knock someone's head off.

Chaera is also an accomplished sorcerer, though nearly all of her spells are offensive and tend towards explosions of lightning and fire, and other combat-oriented things such as magical shields. They can be used a limited number of times, and each spell fatigues her.
